Getting Ready… and Line Drawing #4

I’m in that pre-event nervous stage where still more work needs to be done, I’m not if it’s all going to come together as planned yet I can feel the excitement building.  This year I was given the task of organizing artists to paint ornaments to be auctioned off at the event.  We used crystal...

I’d love to see this as one of your quilts
I’ve also been following the 30 days, 15 minute line challenge since you started, and love the idea a lot, in many ways it looks like it’s breaking down some of the self imposed restrictions we set ourselves when ‘designing’ – keep going I’m looking forward to seeing what else you do

I agree. This could be a really beautiful quilt. It also reminds me of one of my favorite artists, David Body. His personal website is not working right now, but you can see some of his work here:

I would love to take some of his ideas and render it with hand dyed fabric. It is in my head, but I have not time currently to make it.

I am certain your tree will be lovely. I do hope we get to see it.

Thanks for sharing!

Ah yes, caffeine. You could embrace the jitters and have even MORE coffee though!! That could make an interesting line. :-)

Blue haired girl with violin is my fav but they are all very beautiful. Your tangerine tree in bucket is going to be amazing!

This could be a quilt. I’m just sayin’!

Line Drawing… #3

Today’s submission for these 30 days of line drawings has me going in a slightly different direction.  Yes, the theme is still prayer flags, but my line is more fluid and uniform.  I’m not sure I’m liking this oversimplification of the hillside.  It looks almost cartoonish.  I also got a little carried away with the...

Robin, I am unclear about what your question about the nibs is. If you would like to, feel free to email me and I will try to answer your questions. Here’s a few quick tips:

* Only dip your nip in the ink so that it goes about half way up the nib. There is no need to submerge it;

* Have plenty of cheap paper napkins or paper towels on hand. If a big blob of ink sets up in the space above the tip it could plop down in a way you don’t like. You can use the corner of a piece of napkin to soak up the extra ink;

* Use the napkins to clean your nibs occasionally;

* You could even consider moving past ink. Gouche or good quality watercolor (from a tube) deluded with water and applied to the nib with a pointed watercolor brush can yield some really wonderful, intense color.

* Place ink on your drawing and consider adding chunks of kosher salt. If you get the right proportions you can achieve snowflake kinds of looks end the salt absorbs the water with the ink/watercolor.

* Those nibs are generally part of the Calligraphy crowd. You might want to see if one of the guild sites has other tips.

* This is just a small bit of how to deal with nibs and ink.

I am enjoying seeing what you are creating! Please feel free to email me with more specific questions.

Ciao!
Tammy

Line Drawing… #2

I’m loving working with line and little bits of color.  I’m discovering the differences between the various inks I have and love how fluid yet pigmented these are.  These prayer flags have been on my mind lately…

Your line drawings are lovely!

I love you line drawings with the prayer flags. They make me happy!

Line Drawing… #1

I’m in the mood for something a little different around here and am up for a challenge… draw-along really, inspired by Melanie, and informed by Deborah and Kristin.  The assignment is to create a line-drawing roughly 5.5″ square in 15 minutes.  I’ve chosen to use drawing paper, inks, a fountain pen and a super fine...

This has such a lovely, whimsical feel. I am enthralled.

With a little help from my friends…

It’s that time of year for me… fundraising time!  Every year, I help with several fundraisers, one of which is particullarly close to my heart, the holiday event for The Pacific Cancer Foundation… also known as “Aloha Kalikimaka.” It’s an evening affair, and this year an artist friend and I created two branch chandeliers to...

Thanks for sharing how stressful reaching out to help others can be. We need to remember to ask for help, that we can’t do it all by ourselves. You are such an inspiration.

The candles look great – are you going to show us how to make them? I’d love to see the branch chandeller closer, too. Thanks! Good luck with the sale. My daughter and I might make some sugar scrub for a similar benefit.
