{Year ending}

It’s been a year full of challenges and rewards… of loss and new things… of changes and constancy.  My work as an artist took me to new discoveries and passions, as a wife and mother my heart grew.  Looking back now it’s been a blur, but I think it’s been mostly good.  I’m wishing for...

Happy New Year indeed!
(Personally I’m happy to put this year behind me and look ahead to what opportunity I can create. The quilts too.)

What a great collage Robin.
Take care and enjoy the New Year celebrations – warmest blessings to you and your family, and all the best for 2011, I’m looking forward to seeing what you ‘get up to’ this coming year.

Christmas 2010

We went on a little outing today to a cliff overlooking the beach at Hookipa.  It’s on the north side of the island and at this time of year it’s  a popular place for watching giant waves crash and tumble offshore.  In a word it was spectacular!  The way the clouds marched throughout the sky,...

Enjoy your time of rest. I enjoy your posts all through the year!

{Gathering}

It’s been a week of gathering for our clan.  I always love this time of year because of that.  I get to see old friends and meet some new… this one changed jobs… that one gave birth… a family moved house… a friend’s business stayed above water.  It’s never the same, yet always familiar and...

{Wrapping it up}

I don’t know about you but this year I’m “over” the wrapping-paper thing.  It’s an unquestioned ritual for us… purchase paper, wrap gifts, open gifts, throw away paper… until this year, that is. With only days until the big day, I had the sudden realization that I could make reusable bags to put the gifts...

Our cloth bags keep ending up in other people’s houses — but I know they are just making the rounds and will return one year or another with treasures inside. For the past few years I’ve made a few bags each year, particularly for odd shaped items. This year though, most of the presents got wrapped with newspaper and pretty red ribbon.

Oh, Robin, how great that you are doing this! We ave been doing this for over 20 years, and many bags have flown back and forth across the US among family from year to year. Others have gone out to friends.

We also have what we call Pre-Wrapped Boxes….where I wrapped lovely department store boxes (the sturdy kind they used to give out for free), wrapping the tops and bottoms separately, and then tying them with ribbons to ward off snooping. The recipient is required to untie, rather than rip off paper.

I save these from year to year and the boys and husband know where to find them in the attic when they need a box. The boys (now in their 20′s) still exclaim over the special papers they remember. We just slap a new TO/FROM sticker on the same spot each year….It is getting archeological!

Hint on the fabric bags….Wrap the items in (recycled) bubble wrap before placing them in the bags, to make the guessing more challenging!

New Work:

Finished today is this little triangle study… dense quilting is new to me… makes me wonder what this would look like on a larger scale.  I’ll post it for sale in my shop a little later. Elements #30 Also accomplished today was a trip up and down Haleakala.  It’s been very rainy and foggy here....

Dense quilting make a large piece so heavy, but that isn’t a bad thing!
Personally, I prefer the colour version of the photo. Seems more ethereal.
