My Egg-Lemon

Alright, now some of you have heard me talk about how I want to learn how to paint.  I think I said that at the beginning of the year. Maybe?  Ahem, well time flies doesn’t it!  With the kids back in school and things returning to our school-year routine, I figured it’s a good time...

I think both are great. And you are well along the way; the colors blending is spot-on and it has dimension. I really don’t think it looks like an egg. And, to make you feel better I’ll share a little tidbit about my first foray into art class: the first person I drew in my life drawing class — as an adult, mind you — looked like a turtle. And that’s not an evaluation from me, either; the teacher said it, so you know it’s true…..

You are very brave!!! Your lemon turned out beautiful! I didn’t know that painting came from the wrist not the fingers. I have tried watercolors and love the parts like design, color mixing, but the brush intimidates me. That whole hand-eye coordination thing. Keep up the wonderful work!!!

Hi Robin,

I think your first painting is great! Feel free to join us any time if you ever need some subject matter to paint. (rookie painter.blogspot.com) I’m also a quilter and a painter and I go back and forth between the two. I also knit, crochet and garden. In fact, I can’t believe my husband hasn’t left me yet. I think he believes as long as I’m okay with him golfing once or twice a week, we’re even. I’m cool with that.

oh I love working in oils! haven’t done it in years… enjoy enjoy enjoy!

Hana on my mind….

Not much art being worked on these days… ahem.  My poor neglected studio!  I’ve been busy these days making friends with those in the planning department; submitting plans, documents, filling out forms… etc.  I’ve heard that some people grumble about this process, but honestly I’m loving it!  The lady where I submitted my plans joked...

I’m so happy for you! Seeing a dream come true is very exciting, indeed!

I know what you mean about this process – being part of my job it’s a process that can sometimes go very smoothly, and sometimes be a real ‘task’ – I’m glad things are moving quickly and smoothly for you both, and it takes on a whole new perspective when the work gets onto site – enjoy

The Stick-work continues

I had the opportunity to work on that stick-work instillation at the Hui.  I worked on one corner… okay, a corner and part of a wall… but really, the work I put in was teeeny when compared to all the work that’s been done!  It makes me wonder if he will finish by next week’s...

Saw one of these installations last summer in the NY area, I think it was the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Besides the wonder of being inside and therefore being a part of the sculpture, I loved standing apart and watching kids’ reactions to the experience.

I can’t wait to come to Maui again to see this! I don’t know when it will be, but I need to make it happen. :-)

Lucky you — not only to have the exhibit, but to participate in constructing it! We had a Dougherty exhibit in Phoenix at the Desert Botanical Garden several years ago. The most wonderful part was to stand within the structures, enjoying their shade and fragrance, while looking out to the vistas he framed with openings in the walls.

Perhaps you would share some photos from within, once the exhibit is completed? Enjoy!

Gotta love the Avetts!

A Giant Sculpture

I’ve had the chance this week to visit our local arts center, the Hui No’eau, where visiting artist Patrick Dougherty is busy (with volunteers) making a giant instillation.  You can read more about it here, and the latest news on the blog here.  My schedule is full this week, but I do plan on helping...
