Abundance…

With my studio looking ready to work in, I have in mind to “deal with” a box of fabric that was left to me because I am after all the village fiber artist.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE getting boxes like this, it’s just that the other side of getting such a gift is...

I’m not sure if I’m finished but for now I’m calling it “Three Trees.” Tomorrow my picture will be featured in the Pink Chalk Studio Newsletter. For more info on their newsletter, visit this page. Have a lovely weekend!

I was going to say it reminded me of Hui Aloha Church…then I saw your “inspiration” photo at the top left of your pic! ;) Love it!

Cutting Table Expansion

Finished!  Making a cutting table is not easy… especially one this large.  I didn’t know how to go about it.  I went to the countertop store and goodness, the price they wanted for a table top this large was incredible!   Fortunately, I came up with a plan and it worked.  At the hardware store...

When my Mother made hers she went and bought a door! The biggest she could find and mounted that between two cabinets!!

Oh my, that is stupendous. I just know if I had that space, though, my table would be forever covered in stuff. My current sewing table has about 12″ square of cutting mat free right beside my machine and the rest is piles, piles and more piles of fabric. Seeing your amazing studio space is very inspiring!! Thanks for sharing it! I’ve never heard of giant cutting mats (is it self healing, like the Olfa ones?)…very cool.

What a wonderful table – and sewing room! All that space is fabulous!

I love your sewing space! It is going to be amazing to have that much room to cut. How wonderful!

Wonderful!

Someday I’ll have a sewing room this big so I too, can have a table this big. And I’ll use your cool idea! :)

New Work! – a simple quilt

Started as a demo for a magazine article, I finally got around to finishing this one.  Seems that my break from quilting was just that… a break. I’m expanding my exploration into “grout quilting” in which I take thin strips of fabric and use it as grout between tiles of different colored fabrics.  I’m finding...

Robin,

Great use of color in this quilt! And thanks for the thought about “owning” your art. It’s getting easier to say “I am an artist” but some days are better than others. Food for thought.

Lovely! Way to get back in the saddle! :-) I love how the “muddy” colors work so well with some really “sweet” pastels – it takes a practiced eye to make that work – BRAVO! And yay for getting that name out there on the front!

We all need to own where we are on our quilt journey. Thanks for pointing that out.

YUMMY!!!!

As for owning your art….

I find that when I am knocked off track by another person’s work I am forgetting that the reason I am drawn to it in the first place because that person has been successful in being true to him/herself.

AND rather than knock myself off course to try to be like that person I am admiring, I should be more courageous about being very attentive to being totally myself.

I had never thought of grouting idea with patches, but have done some mosaics!! Thanks for that thought!

You must ABSOLUTELY “own” your beautiful art.

Gail BaarOctober 19, 2011 - 12:24 pm

Robin, I have always liked this type of quilt that you make, the shapes show off the colors so well!

Krista - PoppyprintOctober 19, 2011 - 12:11 pm

I would respectfully disagree and say this is anything but a simple quilt! Your use of colour and balance is remarkable, Robin. It’s not an easy achievement (at least for me!). Like all of your work, I love this little quilt and I look forward to seeing what comes next in your ‘grout’ quilt series.

Beautiful quilt and the colors are so calm and soothing. Your comments about “owning” your art were very interesting. Now you’ve got me thinking. Great subject for further discussion.

Hi Robin,

This is a lovely new quilt. Maybe it is not in your top 10, but I love the lines that support/ define the structure. Food for thought.
The idea of signing the quilt on the front is a great one and you are right, it makes you own it.

Outside and Inside

The waves have been up and we’ve been at the shore!  It was an absolutely beautiful day over on the north shore the other day… just thought you’d like to marvel with me: Meanwhile, inside my studio looks as if a bomb has gone off!  It’s been worse before, but my latest reorganizing is perhaps...
