Elements #40 “Kindness”
Robin Ferrier

Finally!  I can show you a full shot of elements #40!  I’m pleased to tell you that this one made it into Art Maui this year and I’m thrilled with how it looks!  I went to the opening last weekend and naturally, am in awe of the breadth of talent we have here on Maui.  From pottery to glass, paintings to wood, this show has it all.  My first impression is that it’s a very organic and earthy show… very few hard straight lines, very few pure colors… lots of tones and shades and many asymmetrical shapes.  Even though the pieces are organic, I wouldn’t consider them unsophisticated.  It’s as if the artists took an essential biotic shape or form and developed it, stretched it, morphed it.  One could certainly say that about my piece and many others here.  I’m pleased that even though most of this work was made here on Maui by Maui artists, it doesn’t wreak of commercial Hawaii.  There are native images and materials in this show, but again these elements are not exploited.  This show also features pieces that speak to our multi-cultural landscape here with eastern as well as western influences.  It’s something unique that a fine arts show out here in the middle of the pacific has to offer.   I do hope you have a chance to view the work.  The show runs from April 15th to May 12.  I’ll be sitting the show on April 23rd… stop by and visit me won’t you!  Cheers!
