I’m still here!

I’ve had a few changes in my life lately… one of which has played a key role in keeping me away from the studio – my career in nursing.  As it stands now, I am the most versatile nurse in our hospital as I can float to almost any unit and not only hold my own, but also help those I work with.  This job does come with sacrifices, like family, housework and art, but these days I’m feeling better about myself and more hopeful about my future.  YES!  I CAN have a career in something other than homemaker!  There are other changes too, but rather than bore you with the details of my personal life, I’ll simply tell you that even though you may not see me as much here, you are with me in thought.  I do love this blog and the people that I’ve met through it, and I do plan on getting back to the type of creating that feeds me.  For now though, I’ll leave you with a shot of a project I couldn’t resist.  I purchased a  quilt top from E-Bay.  It’s made of vintage hawaiian fabrics, much like the ones I used to see as a child.  In fact, I was able to dig up an old photo of myself (I’m on the right) taken at my kindergarden “Lei Day” gathering.  It seems typical of photos taken of me back then, bare feet and all.  Working on this quilt is not only a way to busy my hands during a time in which my brain could use the rest, it’s also a way for me to connect with a simpler time in my life when all I had to worry about was how I was going to eat with a missing tooth in the front!  Happy May everybody!

I looked at that photo and thought for sure it was one of your daughter! I’m happy to hear that you are finding more satisfaction with your nursing career — I can’t imagine how you wouldn’t be amazingly compassionate and capable. I’m glad you’re still here too, even if it’s only intermittently. :-)
