What a cool idea! I never did that as a child nor had any friends that did it either. I think this would be a great activity for every child to get involved in to become more connected with nature. I’ve often thought it would be a minor miracle to be able to observe the transformation of the caterpillar in the cocoon into a butterfly. There is a Butterly House in St. Louis, MO, where I used to live, and I did get to observe, in the “nursery” newly emerged butterflies. I think their wings needed to dry before they could fly. Really interesting!

I have a friend who lives in Japan. Her kids actually have horned beetles as pets. I hope Shelby enjoys Benji through the summer!
