Stars and Sea: The Reveal!

Now, even I realize this is completely unfair… show this quilt with a darling little puppy?  Are you kidding me? Who can resist?!  Sorry folks, I simply had to do it… you understand, don’t you? I’m thrilled to announce that my happy little “Stars and Sea” quilt is finished!  It measures 36″ x 52″ and...

This is just too cute for words! I also love the quilting style and that it is white on white. Wonderful!

I have a very special textile artist friend who belongs to the Wabi Sabi thinking: seeing beauty in imperfection. As a self-confessed “perfectionist”, her philosophy is very freeing for me – like a deep breath of fresh air; it’s a reminder to not take myself so seriously! Keep creating!

I am with you on the quilting. I had a long arm once for about 6 months. No stitch regulator. Ugghh! I love all the quilting you do on your quilts simply because it fits the quilt. I can’t imagine you doing all that fancy quilting on your quilts because they are not ornate or plain in their construction. Your quilts especially the art quilts lend themselves to more of a simple classic line. Perhaps if I had tried to quilt to the quilt instead of striving for a “show piece”, I may still be doing it. No way.

I am rather knowledgeable on art. And it’s certainly never a perfect thing. Good art, I think, is good art.

I’m not the biggest authority on art, but art doesn’t have to be perfect, it has to be you.

Stars and the Sea… Continued

Just a few shots of my view today… I’m thinking of all that a lighthouse stands for… hope, strength, stability, connection, home, dependability… having never really thought of lighthouses too deeply before, it interests me the role they play and have played in our collective culture.  We all need lighthouses from time to time, and...

These are a fun departure from your usual more abstract style. I think both are wonderful!

Robin – your work is really inspiring me – I am so enjoying the process and it is making me think about piecing differently. I love what you are doing.

The Process… And the Importance of Brownies

There is a certain rhythm to all this creativity… inspiration hits, sewing comes swiftly and easily, ideas are worked through, things start slowing down, life takes over, nothing gets done, and I abandon the work until inspiration hits once again.  I guess you could call it my process.  The first time I actually thought of...

I can absolutely see the importance of brownies! Part of my process involves cleaning all the things I’ve avoided cleaning during the contemplation phase of creating.

That brownie looks delicious …..

The Process: At least I have choices

It’s always good to have choices… even if things feel uncertain and uncomfortable, which is how I’m feeling today about all this. Today’s choices involve the land and the sea.  Should I make a shelf or a sloping cliff? And that ocean… should I include gentle rolling waves, rough waves that peak, or long pointy...

I really like the gestural, almost sketch-like look of the quilts you have been building lately.
